Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Ballots show Yes/No on separate lines

The law standardizes local ballot questions statewide. Election officials must print "Yes" and "No" on separate lines. The voting target appears to the right of or below the measure text. Marking "Yes" counts for adoption; marking "No" counts against it. This applies to local propositions, bonds, contracts, and district actions covered by the amended codes.

County committees can adopt trustee areas

The law lets a county committee switch a school board from at-large elections to trustee areas by resolution. The resolution must state it furthers the California Voting Rights Act of 2001. It takes effect when adopted and applies to board elections held at least 125 days later. The change does not go to district voters for approval.
