Prepaid phone surcharge extended to 2031

The law keeps the Local Prepaid Mobile Telephony Services Collection Act in effect through January 1, 2031. On that date, it is repealed unless a new law passed before then changes or extends the date. Until 2031, retailers keep collecting local surcharges on prepaid cell service under current rules. After repeal, those rules end unless extended, which can change checkout costs for prepaid plans.
