Emergency funds for wildfire recovery

The law lets the Director of Finance add up to $1.5 billion to state departments for January 2025 wildfire emergencies. Money can come from any available source, including the General Fund. It pays for evacuations, shelters, emergency protections, hazardous waste removal, post‑fire hazard cleanup, traffic control, and air and water testing. The first $1.0 billion can move right away after notifying the Joint Legislative Budget Committee chair. Any amount over $1.0 billion waits at least three days after approval is sent, unless the chair sets an earlier date. Funds stay available until the January 2025 emergency declarations end or the Director sets another date.
