The California Department of Transportation must identify the best ways to deter suicide attempts on bridges and overpasses by July 1, 2028. It must get feedback from cities, counties, and other stakeholders. It must consult the State Department of Public Health and behavioral health experts. The department decides which countermeasures are appropriate to use. The law says this section does not create a mandatory duty under Government Code 815.6.
