The law ends the crime for parents and guardians of K–8 students labeled chronically truant. Parents are no longer charged for not reasonably supervising and encouraging school attendance after support services were offered. The prior penalty of up to a $2,000 fine or up to one year in county jail, or both, is removed. The law does not create new truancy penalties or programs. The text does not set a start date.
