Clear lien warnings in storage rentals

Storage rental contracts must be in writing. The contract must say your items are subject to a lien and may be sold if rent or other charges are unpaid for 14 straight days. The lien only applies if the contract asks for, and gives space to list, another person to also get lien notices. If you list an alternate, the owner must send notices to both addresses. Not giving an alternate does not remove other legal options the owner has.

Email lien notices with consent

Owners may email lien notices to you (and any alternate you listed) only if the rental contract allows email and you signed agreeing to get notices by email. An email notice counts as delivered only if one of these happens: you e‑sign it; you open, view, download, or print it; you view it in a password‑protected app; or you reply from your email. If the owner cannot show one of these, they must mail the notice to your last known mailing address.
