Districts that run continuation high schools or classes may offer youth workforce programs on one or two weekdays, but students must still be enrolled in at least 15 hours of class each week. A certificated employee supervises the program, and on-the-job supervision is shared with the job-site supervisor. Students can earn academic credit or an industry certificate from work or training aligned to in-demand careers, with technical and soft skills. Programs must partner with community colleges, adult education, regional occupational programs or centers, WASC-accredited workforce programs, or groups that offer industry-recognized certifications. Districts that run these programs must track student attendance and participation, and are encouraged to favor programs that lead to recognized certificates.
A school day counts as 180 minutes in continuation programs. Schools can credit up to 15 hours per school week. If a week has weekday holidays with no class, the weekly cap drops in proportion. These rules apply to continuation high schools and continuation education classes.
