Licensed firearms dealers and manufacturers must meet new "secure facility" standards. Perimeter doors must use one of several options, like a steel security door, a padlocked metal grate, or a steel door with panic hardware and a latch guard. If a door has a window opening of five inches or more, it must be covered with steel bars at least 1/2 inch thick or nine-gauge metal grating. All windows, skylights, HVAC, and service openings must be secured with steel bars, metal grates or screens, or an alarm. Grates cannot have gaps over six inches; screens cannot have gaps over three inches; bars must be spaced no more than six inches apart. The facility must have a burglar alarm with central monitoring, and non-door entries must have steel guards or an audible, silent, or sonic alarm. Door hinges and hasps must be fastened so they cannot be removed when locked. Firearms must be stored in a separate locked room away from general areas, with doors locked when unattended and loading docks locked when no paid staff are present. Storage room walls must be concrete or at least 10-gauge expanded steel wire mesh with typical wood and drywall. Ammunition must be removed from manufactured guns and stored separately; ammo may be with a weapon only in a locked safe.
