UC, CSU, and community college boards must adopt clear student conduct rules and penalties. Campuses must tell all students about the rules and any updates.
Beginning July 1, 2026, UC, CSU, and community colleges must offer a rehab program when a student who received medical treatment for personal drug or alcohol use violates related campus rules. If the student completes an appropriate rehab program, the school does not discipline them for that violation. The student must start within the campus deadline and finish the program; otherwise, normal discipline can apply. This protection applies only once per academic term and does not cover other, separate violations. Schools may note the rehab and exemption in the student's administrative file.
