Effective now, school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools can run a leave‑donation program. Coworkers can donate accrued sick or vacation time if you have a catastrophic illness or injury (or must care for a family member), or if a Governor‑declared emergency keeps you from working. You must ask for the help, provide proof, and use all of your own paid leave first, including new monthly accruals. Donations must be at least 8 hours, then by the hour, are final, and can cover up to 12 consecutive months. Governing boards set program rules, and union contracts may include terms.
