The law covers social media platforms that make over $100,000,000 a year. Platforms must show a clear “Delete Account” button in settings in the app, on a browser, and any other access point. When you use it, the platform must guide you to delete your account and your personal information. If it checks your request, it must use easy, low‑cost methods and the same channel you used, like two‑factor, email, text, or phone. Platforms cannot use dark patterns to block or slow deletion. Your request also counts as a California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) deletion and must follow CCPA timelines and rules. Logging back in does not cancel your request. The law uses existing state definitions for “clearly and conspicuously,” “dark pattern,” and “personal information.”
