Bill Overview

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Fees for court advocate checks

California DOJ cannot charge a fee for state criminal record requests. It can charge a cost-based fee for federal records. DOJ can raise the fee charged to court advocate candidates to cover child-abuse index monitoring. The law does not set a dollar amount.

Stronger checks for court-appointed advocates

Designated court advocate programs must send fingerprints and info for all employees and volunteers to the California DOJ. DOJ runs state and federal criminal checks and checks the Child Abuse Central Index. Programs must also request ongoing arrest notices, and DOJ alerts them if the Index adds a new record. Programs must end notices when someone leaves, check at least every six months, and fix any wrong notices. Each county has one designated court advocate program.
