The Citizens Redistricting Commission continues to redraw district lines. It must update congressional, State Senate, Assembly, and Board of Equalization maps in 2031 and every 10 years after. It follows the existing standards and process in the Constitution.
The law requires California to use the congressional districts set in Assembly Bill 604 for U.S. House elections. It applies to terms that begin on or after the law’s operative date and lasts until the Citizens Redistricting Commission certifies new lines. Only the Attorney General can defend lawsuits about that map. All challenges go straight to the California Supreme Court.
