Voter-approved 1% sales tax in San Luis Obispo

The law lets the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments create a local sales tax up to 1%. The council must pass an ordinance and voters must approve it on or after January 1, 2026 and before January 1, 2032. This extra tax does not count toward the usual local cap on combined sales tax rates. You pay up to 1% more on purchases in that area only if the tax is adopted and approved.
