3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning April 1, 2026, plans and insurers that pay dentists must use a non‑fee default payment method. They must also send each payment with the linked claim and claim details. This applies when they pay you directly or through a vendor. It applies to policies and contracts issued, amended, or renewed on or after that date.
Beginning April 1, 2026, a plan or insurer must get your signed, affirmative consent before using any fee‑based payment method. Electronic or email signatures count. Getting paid does not count as consent. At opt‑in, they must tell you the fees, other no‑fee options, and how to opt out any time. After consent, they may use a fee method, but you can switch back to a no‑fee method at any time. Your choice applies to your whole practice and all covered services. If a payment vendor shares profits or board ties with the plan or insurer, they must tell you. These rules apply to policies and contracts issued, amended, or renewed on or after that date.
Beginning April 1, 2026, these rules do not apply if you have a direct contract that already lets you choose payment methods, including a no‑fee option. In that case, your contract terms control. You do not get the new default and consent protections for that contract. The exemption covers policies and contracts issued, amended, or renewed on or after that date.
