Stronger training for home care aides

Aides working for licensed home care agencies must meet set training rules. Before being with a client, aides must finish 5 hours of entry training. That includes 2 hours of orientation and 3 hours of safety. Aides must also complete at least 5 hours of yearly training. Yearly training covers clients’ rights and safety, daily living needs, and abuse reporting. It also covers hygiene and other home care services, and safe transport if they drive you. Training can be done online. These rules apply until January 1, 2027. Starting January 1, 2027, yearly training must also include dementia care. On that date, the temporary version ends and the updated rules take over.
