Four new school civil rights coordinators

The law creates four school civil rights coordinator roles in the California Office of Civil Rights. They cover religious, race and ethnicity, gender, and LGBTQ discrimination. The Governor appoints each coordinator, and the State Senate must confirm. They focus on preventing discrimination at school sites and enforcing students’ rights. These roles are operative only if Assembly Bill 715 (2025–26) is enacted and effective on or before January 1, 2026.
