Imperial Valley board elects by district

The law splits the Imperial Valley Healthcare District into seven numbered voting districts. Starting with the next district election after January 1, 2024, and as current terms expire, voters in each district elect one board member. The board must work with Imperial County LAFCO, use population and geography to draw lines, and hold a noticed public hearing where any voter can speak; the board’s final resolution sets the map and boundaries. The map and election procedures must be in place by July 1, 2024. Candidates must have lived in their district for the 30 days before the election; midterm vacancies are filled by appointing a resident of that district, and initial appointees may run to be the first elected member.
