Courts can allow email service

The law lets a court allow service of a summons by email or other technology in civil cases. This applies only when no statute provides a method, or after reasonable diligence using all allowed methods has failed. Plaintiffs must file facts showing every attempt to serve and why each method failed at each likely address. The court sets how proof of service must be shown. These alternative service rules do not apply to lawsuits against a government entity or its agents or employees.
