New livestock health fund for farms

The law creates the Livestock Health Preparedness, Response, and Diseased Livestock Indemnity Fund. At the end of each fiscal year, unspent money for Animal Health Division personnel is added to the fund if the Commissioner approves. The money is always available for these purposes. With a recommendation from the State Veterinarian, the Commissioner can spend it to prepare for and respond to livestock diseases and harmful biological or chemical contaminants. Civil penalties under the Livestock Health Act go into the fund.

One-time $250,000 cut to livestock fund

On June 30, 2025, the state treasurer transfers $250,000 from the diseased livestock indemnity fund to the General Fund. This reduces the fund’s balance that year. The transfer requirement is repealed on July 1, 2026.
