Stricter criminal record disclosures for educators

Beginning after the 90-day period following the 2025 session (likely August 12, 2026), teacher license applicants, educator-prep students, and charter school job-offer recipients must complete a disclosure form. They must sign under penalty of perjury and say whether they have convictions. They must disclose: all felonies; misdemeanors with a child or at-risk victim; misdemeanors the teacher-licensing law lists for denial; and other misdemeanors from the last seven years, not including traffic misdemeanors or traffic infractions. For each conviction, they must list the offense, whether it was a felony or misdemeanor, the conviction date, and the court. Failure to disclose is grounds to deny a license or for employment decisions by the charter school; the Department still reviews convictions under state law.
