Colorado shoppers get hair product warnings

Beginning July 1, 2027, manufacturers must provide health warnings to sell, offer, or distribute covered hair products in Colorado. This covers hair relaxers and wigs, extensions, or other hairpieces containing synthetic hair or treated with chemicals. Warnings are required for intentionally added chemicals identified as causing cancer or reproductive harm. The chemical must remain above 100 parts per million or a lower health-harm threshold set by the listed authorities. Chemicals present only by accident during manufacturing do not count. Clear, easy-to-see warnings must use at least 12-point type and state the applicable cancer, birth-defect, or other reproductive-harm risks. Products containing both types of chemicals must warn about both risks. For internet sales, warnings must appear online at the time of sale. Manufacturer violations count as deceptive trade practices.
