More privacy for renters in eviction

Beginning January 1, 2027, landlords must follow court privacy rules and remove sensitive personal information from potentially public eviction documents. Protected information includes Social Security numbers, birth dates, driver's license numbers, state ID numbers, and bank and payment-card numbers. If the court requires this information, landlords must submit it confidentially under court procedures.

Renters get clearer application screening notices

Beginning January 1, 2027, all rental applications must explain what information landlords will try to access for screening. They must describe general screening factors, including credit history, rental history, income, and criminal background when applicable. Landlords must also say whether they use a screening company and name it. The law does not require landlords to set or share fixed reasons for rejecting applicants.
