Late fee waived for deployed members
Beginning August 12, 2026, active-duty owners serving outside Colorado do not pay the vehicle registration late fee if the vehicle was not driven on Colorado public highways between expiration (including any grace period) and reregistration. Show military orders or other proof the Department of Revenue accepts. You no longer need a signed affidavit. The department also notifies you about the no‑driving rule for this waiver.
Reduced car tax for deployed members
Beginning August 12, 2026, you can get Colorado’s reduced vehicle tax rate without signing an affidavit. Show military orders for service outside the United States, or other proof the Department of Revenue accepts. The department also notifies you that the vehicle must not be driven on Colorado roads while the reduced rate applies.
Registration fees waived during overseas deployment
Beginning August 12, 2026, you are exempt from certain Colorado vehicle registration fees if you have orders to serve outside the United States. Show your orders or other proof the Department of Revenue accepts. You do not need a signed affidavit. The vehicle must not be driven on a highway during the exemption. Driving it during the exemption is a class B traffic infraction.
