More winter tire options for drivers

When Colorado restricts state highway travel because of ice or packed snow, drivers can use chains or another traction device. Drivers can also use qualifying tires with at least 3/16-inch tread depth. Those tires need a manufacturer's mountain-snowflake, M&S, M+S, or M/S mark, or an all-weather rating. The law removes the four-wheel or all-wheel drive requirement for this tire option.

Officials can clear more highway blockages

Authorized officers and agency workers can have vehicles, cargo, or debris moved from a highway right-of-way. This applies when the items block traffic or interfere with highway maintenance or operations, even when a vehicle is attended. Before an agency worker has a motor vehicle moved, the worker must get approval from an authorized law enforcement agency. Approval can come from local law enforcement, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, or the Colorado State Patrol.

Clearer bike lanes, new stopping limits

The law keeps designated bike lanes clear for cyclists by banning vehicles from stopping, standing, or parking there. Drivers may still stop when needed to avoid a traffic conflict. They may also stop when following directions from a police officer or an official traffic control device.
