School protections reach Guard and Reserve children

Beginning August 12, 2026, Colorado extends interstate school protections to eligible children of National Guard and Reserve members. The parent or guardian must serve on active-duty orders under 10 U.S.C. chapters 1209 or 1211. Coverage applies to publicly funded students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade and the school districts serving them. The compact addresses school transfers, enrollment, student records, and extracurricular eligibility. A valid referendum petition delays implementation until voter approval in November 2026 and the governor's official declaration of the vote.
