Beginning August 12, 2026, the law extends the Colorado Medical Board and its governing law through September 1, 2035. This moves the scheduled repeal from 2026 to 2035 and keeps state medical licensing and oversight in place. The board must carry out recommendations from its 2025 sunset review. Its president can participate as a full member of the licensing panel.
Beginning August 12, 2026, licensed natural medicine facilitators do not need a separate Colorado medical or physician training license. This exemption covers only services within the facilitator license's scope. The person must hold Colorado's natural medicine license to perform and supervise those services.
Beginning January 1, 2027, the Colorado Medical Board can issue doctors an administrative license for work without direct patient care. Applicants must hold or have held an unrestricted Colorado medical license, or meet alternative licensing requirements set by the board. They must pay the licensing fee and satisfy additional board rules or stipulations. Allowed work includes evidence-based care and patient safety protocols, quality management, research design and analysis, teaching without patient care, and board-approved activities. Patient contact, treatment plans, patient care, test orders, prescribing, and other nonadministrative work require express board approval. Holders must maintain required medical liability insurance, but do not need continuing medical education. The license follows renewal and reactivation rules, and the board can adopt rules governing this work.
Beginning August 12, 2026, qualified foreign teaching physicians without associate professor rank or higher can receive temporary licenses without the one-year limit. They must practice under direct supervision by a faculty member ranked associate professor or higher. Licenses remain valid only while holders serve on a medical school's academic staff. Both licensing pathways follow renewal rules, and the board must find that qualifications will continue through the next license period. The board can require an interview and withdraw a license for leaving the academic staff or unprofessional conduct.
