More grandparents can qualify for family time

The law expands who counts as a grandparent or great-grandparent for family time. A person who was the child’s grandparent can qualify when the child’s mother or father has died. A person who was the child’s great-grandparent can qualify when the child’s mother, father, or grandparent has died. The required relationship through birth, adoption, or marriage must exist. Some relatives of a legal parent whose parental rights ended are excluded, and qualifying does not guarantee family time.
