Colorado schools receive natural resource revenue

The law directs royalties and other natural-resource extraction payments from Colorado public school lands to support public schools. The State Public School Fund receives the first $25 million in state fiscal year 2025-26 and $45 million in 2026-27. These are one-time transfers, not an ongoing funding change. Both amounts are calculated after credits to the State Land Board Trust Administration Fund, the Public School Capital Construction Assistance Fund, and those required by C.R.S. 36-1-116(1)(b)(II). Remaining payments above these amounts go into the permanent Public School Fund's principal, the money preserved for future generations.
