Colorado redirects extra federal Medicaid money

The law applies to state fiscal years beginning July 1, 2021, and later. When a provider certifies public spending, Colorado’s Medicaid department keeps the federal reimbursement amount above 50% of that spending. The state treasurer transfers this money to the General Fund for lawmakers to fund Medicaid. Qualifying service dates must fall within the period of increased federal payments under two federal laws: the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023. The law does not change household eligibility or benefit amounts. The rule is repealed after all payments for services during that period are reconciled. Repeal takes effect on the date specified in the department director’s written notice, or the notice date if none is specified.
