Colorado accepts out-of-state and military licenses

Beginning August 12, 2026, Colorado accepts applications by endorsement. You qualify if you hold a current license in good standing from another U.S. state or territory. Certificates, registrations, or enrollments in good standing also count. Credentials from another country or the federal government also count. You also qualify if you hold a relevant military occupational specialty. The Division must issue a Colorado credential if you meet program rules. Existing exceptions in section 12-20-202(3)(c) and (3)(f) still apply. Regulators may define what counts as "substantially equivalent" experience or credentials. They must let you prove competency that way, even if other statutes bar it. This applies to endorsement applications filed on or after the effective date. If a referendum petition is filed and voters approve in 2026, it starts on the Governor’s official declaration date.
