Donations allowed for firefighter mental health program

The Division of Fire Prevention and Control can seek, accept, and spend gifts, grants, and donations. Money from public or private sources must support the firefighter behavioral health benefits program. The law takes effect at 12:01 a.m. the day after the 90-day period after the legislature adjourns. That date is August 12, 2026, if adjournment is May 13, 2026. If a referendum is filed in that 90-day window, it starts only if voters approve it, on the date the governor declares the vote.
