Lower pay for Dolores County elected officers

The law moves Dolores County to a lower salary category for elected officers. Listed annual pay for commissioners, the treasurer, assessor, and clerk falls from $67,360 to $61,236—a $6,124 cut. Sheriff pay falls from $75,511 to $68,646—a $6,865 cut. Part-time coroner pay falls from $15,225 to $13,841—a $1,384 cut. The category change applies to officers whose terms begin on or after January 1, 2016. The law takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day after the 90-day period following final legislative adjournment in 2026. That date is August 12, 2026, if final adjournment occurs on May 13, 2026. If a referendum petition is filed, the law takes effect only with voter approval at the November 2026 general election. In that case, it takes effect when the governor officially declares the vote.
