Colorado Channel board opens to nonlawmakers

Effective upon passage, four Colorado Channel Authority board appointees no longer have to be serving state lawmakers. These appointments remain with the House speaker, House minority leader, Senate president, and Senate minority leader. Members serve staggered four-year terms, with no more than three terms ending in one year. Each appointing leader fills vacancies for the remaining term, without the former major-party balance rule. These changes do not create a direct household benefit or cost.

Colorado legislature funding drops by $1,446

The law cuts General Fund money for the legislative department’s use by the General Assembly by $1,446 for fiscal year 2026-27. The cut applies only if House Bill 26-1333 becomes law and provides at least $1,446 for that purpose. No cut is required if that budget bill provides less than $1,446 or no such funding. The cut takes effect on the later of this law’s effective date or House Bill 26-1333’s effective date. This is a state budget change, not a direct household payment or tax change.
