Beginning October 1, 2025, Connecticut offers three education routes for a certified public accountant (CPA) certificate. A bachelor's degree with an accounting focus requires two years of experience. A bachelor's degree plus 30 extra semester hours, including an accounting focus, requires one year of experience. A degree beyond a bachelor's with an accounting focus also requires one year of experience. Applicants must still meet exam requirements, but the law removes the separate good-character requirement.
Beginning October 1, 2025, qualifying out-of-state CPAs can practice in Connecticut without a Connecticut license. Their main business location must be outside Connecticut. One route requires a valid out-of-state CPA license in good standing and Connecticut's education, experience, and exam qualifications. Another covers those who passed the CPA exam by September 30, 2025, and held such a license on that date.
