New mileage payment rules for Medicaid ambulances

Beginning July 1, 2026, Connecticut bases out-of-district Medicaid ambulance mileage payments on actual miles traveled with the patient onboard. Distance runs from pickup to destination and is rounded to the nearest tenth of a mile. Providers must keep mileage documentation in the patient care record, including a trip report naming the patient and both street addresses. They can use any reasonable, verifiable method, including GPS, dispatch software, or mapping systems. The change depends on federal approval and available state funding; it sets no specific payment rate or direct household payment.
