Towns can also authorize permanent vehicle loss when fines and related charges remain unpaid six months after impoundment.
Beginning July 1, 2025, Connecticut towns cannot take qualifying owners’ or lenders’ interests in seized off-road vehicles. They must collect the vehicle within 90 days after the later of the town’s website posting and mailed forfeiture notice.
Beginning July 1, 2025, any Connecticut town can authorize seizure and permanent forfeiture of dirt bikes and mini-motorcycles. The town must have an ordinance regulating their use on public property; the former 20,000-person population threshold is removed.
