Beginning July 1, 2025, Connecticut establishes annual student loan reimbursement grants, limited by available funding. Providers must hold a state Department of Public Health license and work full-time in Connecticut. Only qualifying loan payments made during that employment count; self-employed providers and sole proprietors cannot receive grants. At least 20% of grants go to primary care providers. At least 20% go to providers working in rural Connecticut communities or at federally qualified health centers in Connecticut. Primary care includes family medicine, general pediatrics, internal medicine, and primary care obstetrics or gynecology, regardless of board certification. Providers apply to the department, and the commissioner sets eligibility rules, considers workforce shortages, and may include income limits.
Effective July 1, 2025, the law requires Connecticut to establish athletic trainer relocation grants by January 1, 2026. Grants depend on available funding. Applicants must move to Connecticut, get a Connecticut athletic trainer license, practice in the state, and meet commissioner-set eligibility criteria. The public health commissioner sets application requirements and grant amounts. Recipients must report how they used the money for relocation costs.
Effective July 1, 2025, the law requires a virtual training pilot by January 1, 2026, within available funding. Connecticut's public health department must partner with a Connecticut-based education or educational technology provider. Home-based courses meet applicable training and competency evaluation requirements for nurse's aide registration or emergency medical technician certification. Required supervised, in-person practical training remains in place. Participants must meet eligibility criteria set by the public health commissioner.
Effective July 1, 2025, Connecticut's education commissioner must update the health care careers plan by January 1, 2026. The plan must specifically promote radiologic technology, nuclear medicine technology, and respiratory care. It includes career-day presentations, partnerships with educational programs, counseling, job shadowing, and internships for high school students. The law does not specify funding for this change.
