Connecticut Medicaid covers sickle cell gene therapy

Beginning June 23, 2025, Connecticut Medicaid covers FDA-approved gene therapies to treat sickle cell disease. The Department of Social Services must pursue federal efforts to improve cost-effective access, including the Cell and Gene Therapy Access Model. The law requires a report to the legislature’s human services committee by January 1, 2026. It must describe efforts to improve access and count Medicaid recipients who received coverage for these therapies. It must also list state costs and estimate the state funding needed for coverage.
