Beginning October 1, 2025, Connecticut bans distributing, selling, or offering battery-only smoke detectors unless they meet a long-life battery standard. Batteries must be nonremovable, nonreplaceable, and capable of powering the detector for at least 10 years. Exemptions cover building-powered equipment, fire alarm systems with smoke detection, panel-connected fire alarm devices, and devices using low-power radio-frequency wireless signals. Sellers may still sell noncompliant devices they possessed on October 1, 2025, or ordered before that date. Violations carry fines up to $100 for the first violation and $500 for each later violation.
