Minimum pay for early childhood teachers

The law sets minimum pay for assistant and lead teachers at child development facilities that have a contract to get money from the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund. From Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2024, minimum yearly pay is: Assistants—$43,865 (less than CDA), $51,006 (CDA), $54,262 (associate). Leads—$54,262, $63,838, or $75,103, based on credentials. Beginning Jan 1, 2025, minimum yearly pay is: Assistants—$51,006 (CDA) or $54,262 (associate or 60 college credits). Leads—$51,006 (center or expanded home with CDA), $54,262 (child development home with CDA), $63,838 (associate or at least 12 ECE credits), or $75,103 (bachelor’s or at least 12 ECE credits). Facilities must use Fund dollars to meet these pay floors.

Who qualifies and which homes count

The law clarifies who counts as qualified staff and which homes are covered. Where rules said “expanded child development home,” they now also cover “child development home.” “CDA” means a national CDA the Department accepts, or a state certificate that meets or exceeds those standards. Degrees in education or related fields named in Department rules can meet teacher qualification rules. The Department must publish guidance to help match teacher qualifications to the new pay tables.
