Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Campus police gain parking ticket authority

Campus police can issue parking citations on property under their jurisdiction, on bordering public roads, and in public spaces reserved for people connected to or visiting the school. Before enforcement starts, the school must notify the District and certify that officers completed comparable training. This authority does not override laws that bar certain campus police from enforcing parking rules. The law takes effect after mayoral approval or a Council veto override and 30 days of congressional review.

Parking groups get help with detail costs

Eligible entities can sign written agreements for District parking officers to patrol designated areas. The Department provides officers only when staffing is adequate, and they must be working overtime and otherwise be off duty. Entities pay the agreed costs, while the Mayor must create a program to subsidize part of those costs, subject to available funding. The law does not set the subsidy amount. The law takes effect after mayoral approval or a Council veto override and 30 days of congressional review.
