Plan and funding to bring sports events to DC

The Washington Convention and Sports Authority must set aside at least $500,000 each year to find and pick a qualified group to host marquee sports events. The funding targets events that draw sports business leaders, including sports media executives, league commissioners, and sports agency professionals. The Authority must also create and carry out a plan to promote the District as the Official Sports Capital. The plan must bring and keep major events, grow youth sports, build team partnerships, and boost marketing. It must also advance electronic sports with tournaments, career paths, digital tech, and youth engagement. The Authority must submit the plan to the Council within 120 days after the act’s effective date.
