Workers keep full short-term disability pay

Beginning May 1, 2025, insurers cannot cut your short-term or temporary disability checks because you also get D.C. Universal Paid Leave. This applies to individual and group policies, even if the policy was issued outside D.C., and covers estimated or actual leave benefits. The law uses the Universal Paid Leave Act’s definitions of “eligible individual” and “self-insured employer.” These protections apply through December 12, 2025.
