Permit and fee for Long Bridge heritage trees

The law requires the Mayor to issue a Heritage Tree removal permit at the Long Bridge Project site. This covers trees that abut or are inside the site managed by the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority. It applies when no reasonable design alternative avoids the tree. The Urban Forestry Division must find the tree cannot be protected in place. The applicant must show moving the tree costs over $1,000,000 or would unduly burden the public. The applicant must pay $1,200 for each inch of the tree’s circumference.

Rule ends 225 days after start

The law takes effect after the Mayor approves it or a Council veto override, and after a 30‑day congressional review. It then expires 225 days after it takes effect.
