DC school budgets track costs and closures

DC Public Schools now factors expected increases in average educator costs into each school’s budget for the next fiscal year. These costs include salary and benefits. One part of the budget formula now counts “instructional personnel” instead of “instructional or school-based support personnel.” When a school or campus closure eliminates a grade, the related budget calculation decreases to reflect staff reductions over multiple years. The law provides no new funding and does not establish how much individual school budgets change.
