Age-60 retirement option for covered federal officers

Department heads may retire covered federal officers once they reach age 60. This covers members of the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division, U.S. Park Police, and U.S. Secret Service Division. Members retired this way are entitled to a pension calculated under the retirement law’s existing formula. Reaching age 60 does not guarantee retirement; the department head decides.

DC first responders can serve longer

The law removes the mandatory retirement age for members of DC’s Metropolitan Police Department and Fire and Emergency Medical Services. These members no longer have to retire just because they reach the former age limit. The law does not set a replacement retirement age.
