New members and meeting schedule

Beginning October 18, 2025, the Department of Parks and Recreation joins the Waterways Advisory Commission as a non-voting, ex-officio member. The law also updates the appointment rules by linking them to section 2(f) of the Confirmation Act and adds the Office to that Act’s list. The Commission must meet at least once every two months, not monthly. These steps align membership, confirmations, and the meeting schedule with other DC boards.

New timeline for waterways plan

Beginning October 18, 2025, the Commission has two years to develop the Advisory Plan, not one. The old rule that notice had to be at least 60 days before adoption is removed. After public comments and revisions, voting members must adopt the plan within 60 days and send it for publication. The plan is reviewed and, if needed, updated at least every three years using the same steps.
