Parents get rights notices during neglect investigations

DC’s Child and Family Services Agency must give caretakers written information about available legal resources when an investigation starts. During caretaker interviews, the agency must explain available legal resources and the existing right to a lawyer during key stages of neglect proceedings. It must also tell caretakers about the Office of the Ombudsperson for Children, which receives complaints. The law adds notice requirements, not a new right to legal representation.
