Youth providers gain background check options

The DC Mayor can authorize covered, nongovernmental youth service providers to run background checks on their applicants, employees, and volunteers. Authorized providers must send all records obtained through this authority to the Mayor for uses allowed by the law. The law also allows covered private providers, alongside the Mayor, to receive background-check records. Applicants, employees, and volunteers can consent to sharing their records for another jurisdiction’s required criminal history or traffic records check. This allows records to help meet those requirements, but involves sharing sensitive personal information.
